Everybody in it weren't British, and 2. Therefore everyone was hesitant to complain, explain, or show evidence that would shut down all doubts. The whole notion of the stiff upper lip is taken to unbelievable extremes here. The youngest daughter in a family sneaks into the party celebrating the sale of her beloved childhoodhome, a party her father's younger Spanks-wearing girlfriend did not invite her to, to search for the one thing she failed to retrieve the last time she saw her former home. It starts with an intriguing premise. And there are all kinds of secrets to discover. And the struggles of the characters pull at your heart but not enough to make you sad. Everyone changes, grows, relationships pulling apart and coming together. Funny bits and beautiful moments. I don’t even know how to say it all, but I love it. I loved every minute of it. I had bouts of laughing out loud in an empty room as I was unable to contain myself. It might not change the trajectory of the world or cure cancer, but its a delightful moment to remember what's really important and have a laugh. Loved it! I couldn’t wait to read this-but I thought it was boring, hard to get through, didn’t have that laugh out loud factor, very predictable. I struggled with reading this to end Bc I found it so boring. Very disappointed. This book lacks her usual sense of humour and is very predictable. Also very confined in space and characters. The package arrived on the morning of the book’s release date, in great condition (the parcel was partially opened but I am sure this was my nosy housemate’s doing). I know I will for sure order books again from here when I can’t go buy them in person. As for the book itself, I quite enjoyed it. I am a big fan of Kinsella’s earlier books and this gave me more of a throwback feel than any of her recent works.
